Where we sail
The expedition covers the rich waters around Tromsø. From Grindøya island and the Rya strait — hunting mackerel and Atlantic cod over the seabed ridges — to the deeper channels of Balsfjord for redfish and wolffish, and the intimate arm of Ramfjord where you'll try to outsmart the king of northern waters: the halibut.
The journey
-
010.5 hrs
Start & Tromsø Panorama (Prostneset)
Board at Tromsø Marina (Prostneset), run the safety briefing, and prepare the rods on the stable catamaran deck. Sail beneath the slender Tromsø Bridge (Tromsøbrua) with a memorable photo stop against the soaring Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen) from the water — Mount Tromsdalstinden looming behind and the upper Fjellheisen cable-car station above.

021.5 hrs
Fishing around Grindøya & the Rya Strait
First anchor over the seabed ridges near Grindøya island, tracking shoals of feeding mackerel and classic Atlantic cod. Then move on toward the Rya waters, working the deeper marine channels where strong currents wash in food for the bigger predators.
-
032 hrs
Expedition Deep into the Fjords (Balsfjord & Ramfjord)
We fish exclusively with metal jigs. Balsfjord: cruise the calmer waters framed by steep slopes, working the bottom with heavier pilkers for sizeable redfish and wolffish (stenbit). Ramfjord: fishing the intimate arm of the fjord for trophy cod, saithe, haddock, and tusk — with a chance to outwit the king of northern waters, the halibut.
